81 Year Old Man Dies From Gunshot Wounds

A fatal shooting in Newport last night. This happening on Seahorn Drive. A witness on scene screamed to police that the victim had shot himself. That victim was 81 year old Robert Bishop. He was laying on the ground bleeding from a gunshot wound to the center of his abdomen. In the immediate area on a picnic table was a 9mm Beretta pistol with 8 rounds still in the mag and one round stove piped in the chamber. Also nearby was a dog who had been shot once in the head. Two 9mm shell casings were located nearby. Mr. Bishop was able to squeeze the officer’s hand upon arrival but shortly after arriving at the Newport Medical Center was pronounced deceased. The man’s wife told police that the Beretta was her husband’s and was the only gun he owned. The deceased dog was also said to be Mr. Bishop’s. That shooting is currently under investigation.
