CCSO Responding To School Threats

Numerous school districts in East Tennessee are seeing and dealing with a rash of threats of violence at schools. Yesterday in Knoxville, three middle school students ages 13, 12 and 11 were arrested for making threats against schools. Knox County authorities responded to eight such threats, including a bomb threat at Halls High School.

Other counties have received threats as well including Cocke County schools. The Cocke County Sheriff’s office says they have a school resource officer in every school now, but additional officers have been called in to help keep schools secure and the Newport Police Department is also assisting in those efforts. No details about the threats have been released but the Cocke County Sheriff’s office says they will provide details later.

Anderson, Blount, Campbell and Claiborne County schools have also dealt with threats this week. Jefferson County dealt with a similar situation last week.

All of this is on the heels of the school shooting recently in Georgia that claimed four lives…two students and two teachers.
