Wednesday Afternoon Accident Sends Man To Hospital
A man injured in an accident on West Broadway in Newport Wednesday afternoon if being charged in that accident. According to witnesses, 66 year old Phillip Lennon of Newport was pulling out of the Food city West parking lot attempting to get to Old Knoxville Highway across the highway. However, he pulled out into the path of a 2014 Acura Driven by 76 year old Mary Pitner, who had no time to stop. Lennon’s vehicle wound up on its top, with Lennon trapped inside, his passenger was able to make it out of the vehicle. Ms. Pitner’s vehicle would up traveling a short distance before coming to a stop in the eastbound lanes. Phillip Lennon had to be extricated from his vehicle and was transported to the Newport Medical Center with possible serious injuries. Ms. Pitner complained of chest pain from the airbag deployment, but was not transported tot he hospital. Mr. Lennon was found to be driving without insurance and also on a suspended license. He has also been charged with Reckless/Negligent Driving and Failure To Yield The Right of Way.
