Man Charged With Aggravated Assault
A man began the new year in jail after being arrested for assault New Years Day. According to Newport police, they were called Wednesday afternoon to the Newport Medical Center about an assault that had occurred at the Quality Inn on Cosby Hwy. Police spoke with the victim who stated that in a fit of rage, her boyfriend had grabbed her by the throat, restricting her breathing, and pushed her against the wall. When she broke free, she say the boyfriend, 39 year old Timothy Adams, produced a 9mm handgun and threatened to kill her if she called police. When she attempted to leave the room, Adams allegedly threw a vapor cigarette at her, striking her in the eye. Officers spoke with Adams at the Quality Inn. He admitted that he had thrown a vapor cigarette at the victim, but denied pulling a gun on her, even though a 9mm handgun was found on a chair in the room. Adams was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
