Driver Charged With Possession

Monday evening Newport police followed a vehicle that appeared to be trying to avoid police. The driver of that vehicle was 53 year old Keith Dockery, who finally pulled over on North Street. Dockery’s license was revoked due to a DUI charge. When officers searched the vehicle, they found a loaded SCCY 9mm handgun in the center console and several 9mm rounds with the gun. Dockery, who was convicted of a felony in 2018 told police he had taken possession of the gun earlier in the day for a friend who is currently incarcerated. Dockery is charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon. A passenger in the vehicle, 53 year old Ricky Shelton was found to be in possession of a gram of what appeared to be meth inside his hat and sock. He is charged with possession of schedule II narcotics.
