Cocke County Sees Big Dip In Unemployment Rate For August
It was good news for Tennessee counties on Thursday, as the unemployment numbers were released for individual counties in the state. According to data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, all 95 counties in the state saw a drop in their unemployment rates from July to August. Ninety counties, including Cocke County, reported unemployment rates of less than 5% in August.
Cocke County saw a nearly 1% drop in the unemployment rate in August, going from 5.4% in July down to 4.5% in August. According to stats, 14,838 of the 15,531 eligible members of the workforce in Cocke County were employed in August.
Greene County saw the second biggest drop in the state with their unemployment rate going from 6.8% in JUly to 4.8% in August, a 2% drop. Weakley County in West Tennessee had the biggest one month drop with 4.3%, going from 8.5% in July to 4.2% in August.
Elsewhere in this area, Hamblen County dropped from 4.7 to 3.8% and Jefferson County dropped from 4.2 to 3.4%. Sevier County dropped from 3.3% to 2.7% in August. That gives Sevier County the lowest unemployment rate in the state. The biggest reason for unemployment rates decreasing during the month of August, was school was back in session so teachers went back to work.
