Former Cosby HS Teacher Killed In Car Accident
A former teacher at Cosby High School was killed in a car accident earlier this week. Lisa Coffey died in a car crash in Mosheim on Monday morning. Coffey taught geometry at Cherokee High School in Hawkins County and was an adjunct professor at Walters State Community College, but previously taught at Cosby High School.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Lisa Coffey was driving on Andrew Johnson Highway when a semi-truck in front of her slowed down for a turning vehicle. The report states that there were no skid marks, so they believe that Coffey was distracted and when she looked up, had no time to react and slammed into the back of semi truck. The THP also says speed may have played a factor in that crash. The report from the THP says she was trapped inside of her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
During her tenure at Cosby High School, Lisa Coffey founded the Lady Eagles Volleyball team. Lisa Coffey was 49.
