Burn Permits Now Required In TN
We have been undergoing a very dry period, and there is a threat of wildfires right now. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry wants to remind you that you now need a burn permit in order to burn in Tennessee. Burn permits are now required if you plan on burning any size leaf, brush, or debris pile or conduct prescribed fires. Permits will now be required through May 15. Burning without a permit is a Class C misdemeanor in the state of Tennessee. Keep in mind that fires must be fully extinguished by the time your permit expires, so be prepared to burn when you have your permit. Leaving a fire unattended is a Class B misdemeanor.
The good news is, burn permits are free and are easily accessible by going to the website www.BurnSafeTN.org. If you choose, you can also get a permit by using the MyTN app on your mobile device. Permits are available from 9am to 5:30pm eastern time, seven days a week.
