Police Investigate Violation Of Order Of Probation

Newport Police are investigating a reported violation of an Order of Protection involving two local men. According to police, an officer spoke by phone on October 22nd with Tyler Shepherd, who stated he has an active protection order against Matthew Shults. Shepherd reported that Shults came by the Newport Wal-Mart, where he works, on October 21st between 5:30 and 6 p.m., staring at him while he was on the job. Shepherd told officers that Shults later returned to the parking lot, again watching him before driving away. Shepherd admitted he did not have proof of either encounter but was advised on how to seek a criminal summons for the alleged violation.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
