Cocke County Makes Sure Food Is Available For SNAP Recipients During Govt. Shutdown
As the government shutdown continues, many are worried about what comes next month, as SNAP benefits will not be sent out for the month of November. 42 million Americans rely on the SNAP program, previously known as food stamps. In preparation for that possibility, Cocke County officials have partnered with various local charities and food distribution organizations to make sure everyone in the county has access to food.
According to Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis, there will be a food dsitribution each day during the month of November, with the exception of Thanksgiving. This is being accomplished with the help of numerous chartities and churches in Cocke and Jefferson counties. Those include Sunset Gap, The Bread Basket, Trinity Baptist Church, Bybee Community Church, The Hope House, Appalachian Ministry Of The Smokies in Jefferson County and Swansylvania Baptist Church in Dandridge.
Cocke County officials have put together a list of all the dates and places where food will be available during the month of November. That list can be found at https://www.cockecountytn.gov/food.
