Unemployment Rate Down Slightly In September For Cocke County
Due to the government shutdown in October, we are just now getting unemployment data for the month of September. Last week, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development released September unemploymnet data for the state and for the infdividual counties.
In September, Cocke County’s unemployment rate sat at 4.4%, down from 4.5% in August. The highest unemployment rate in the area was in Greene County at 4.7%. That ranks as the sixth highest in the state.
Hamblen County’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.8%. Jefferson County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.4% in August to 3.5% in September. Sevier County was tied with Williamson County for the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.8%. That’s up from 2.7% in August.
The unemployment rate for the state of Tennessee in September was 3.6%, matching the number for August. Only four of the state’s 95 counties recorded rates of 5% or higher, with the highest at 5.6%. That was in Perry County. Unemployment numbers will be released for October and November when the data is available.
