Gas Prices Continue Downward Trend for Christmas
The Christmas travel period started on Saturday (12/20) and runs till Friday morning, January 2. Traveling by car is the cheapest way to go this year, as gas prices are continuing to fall. The average price for gas in the state of Tennessee has fallen below $2.50 a gallon, the lowest they have been since early in 2021. The average gas price in Tennessee as of Monday morning (12/22) is $2.47. In Cocke County, we are averaging 10 cents a galllon below the state average at $2.37. That is now the cheapest average price in this area.
The national average continues to go down as well at $2.85 a gallon. If you are going to be traveling out of state, you will probably pay a little more than in Tennessee. The average gas price in North Carolina is $2.64; South Carolina is $2.51; Kentucky is $2.52. Georgia and Virginia are the most expensive adjoining states with prices of $2.73 and $2.71 respectively. States to our west have the cheapest prices with most being just a few cents cheaper than Tennessee. Oklahoma has the cheapest gas prices in the nation, averaging $2.29.
Hawaii has the highest prices at $4.42 with California at $4.31. Those are the only two states where gas prices average more than $4 a gallon.
