Department Of Safety Sending Letter Of Compliance To Many CDL Holders
If you are a truck driver, here’s some news that may affect you. The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is updating older Commercial Driver License records. This is to comply with current federal and state requirements in regards to an exectuive order signed recently by President Donald Trump.
Federal rules now require all CDL records to include proof of citizenship or lawful presence. Many long-standing CDL holders in the state obtained their licenses before those requirements were in place. The Department of Safety and Homeland Security says approximately 8,800 of Tennessee’s 150,000 CDL holders will be receiving a notice by mail requesting citizenship or lawful presence documentation. The letter will also explain which documents are acceptable and how to submit them. Only one valid document is needed to complete the record update. By law, the updates must be completed in person at a state driver services center.
The Department of Safety emphasizes that not every Tennessee CDL holder will receive a letter to do this update. If you do not receive a letter, then you do not need to do anything.
