CCSO Warning Of Blue Light Issue
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office is warning about an issue that has gotten their attention, and that is someone having a flashing blue light on a vehicle that is not authorized to do so. The sheriff’s office says only authorized, full-time, salaried, uniformed law enforcement officers that are POST CERTIFIED are allowed to use those flashing blue lights. In fact, it is a Class C misdemeanor in the state of Tennessee for any non-law enforcement officer to install, maintain, or exhibit flashing blue emergency lights on a personal vehicle. That misdemeanor can turn into a felony if the individual using the blue lights claims to be a police officer, but actually is not.
The sheriff’s office says that if they spot anyone using those flashing blue lights in violation of state law, that person will be arrested. If you see anyone illegally using blue flashing lights on their vehicle, call the Cocke County Sheriff’s office non-emergency number. That number is 423-623-3064.
