Newport Man Injured In Confrontation

Police were called to a residence on Filbert Street last night in reference to a man unconscious on the ground. Police found that man, 50 year old Dennis Henderson lying on the ground behind an apartment. A witness told police that Henderson was acting aggressively towards a dog owned by 22 year old Joshua Smartt. When Smartt confronted Henderson about his actions, Henderson became aggressive towards Smartt coming aggressively towards him, so Smartt punched him once in the face…knocking Henderson backwards striking his head on the pavement when he landed. Henderson was bleeding from the back of the head and was transported to the Newport Medical Center…he was then transported by Lifestar to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. No arrests have been made in that case.
