New Laws In Regards To Children In Effect Today
Today is July 1st…so several new laws are on the books and they include a new child rape sentencing law. That new law requires that an individual convicted of the facilitation of or aggravated rape of a child serve 100% of the sentence imposed minus a 15% credit…plus they are required to have community supervision for life.
Also another law going into effect regarding children is the act known as Evelyn Boswell’s Law…that law requires parents to report their child missing within 24 hours of the knowledge that the child is indeed missing. That law was inspired by the case of 2 year old Evelyn Boswell in Sullivan County who had been missing since December of 2019 but was not reported missing by her mother till February 18, 2020. In early March the remains of a small child confirmed to be that of Evelyn Boswell were found on the grounds of a family member of Megan Boswell…Evelyn’s mother who was arrested for the child’s murder. She is in the Sullivan County jail awaiting trial…that probably won’t happen till sometime next year.
