Man Arrested For Assaulting First Responder

A Newport man was arrested late Sunday night for assaulting a first responder. Newport police were advised that First Call EMS needed assistance at 601 East Broadway. When an officer arrived he found First Call EMS employee Rod Dykes restraining a man on the ground. Dykes told the officer that he had stopped at Brock’s Market and noticed a man identified as Larry Stanley grab a soda from the cooler and walk out of the store without paying. Dykes saw Stanley standing at his ambulance outside and went to speak with him but Stanley told Dykes he was going to kill him and tried to push him. Dykes told Stanley that he would take him back inside and be glad to pay for his drink…at that time Stanley attempted to assault Dykes…who was able to get Stanley to the ground and detain him till police arrived. 41 year old Larry Stanley now faces a long list of charges including disorderly conduct, and assault against a first responder.
