Man Arrested At Courthouse

On Wednesday Newport police were dispatched to 111 Court Ave. in Newport (Cocke County Courthouse) with reports of a man passed out behind the wheel of a Gold Nissan Altima in the parking area near the railroad tracks. The arriving officer knocked on the window a few times…finally waking the driver 34 year old Michael Crowe. He told officer Brandon Cassidy that he was not sleeping but listening to music. In plain view on the inside of the driver’s door handle was a plastic bag containing approximately 16 grams of suspected Methamphetamine. Mr. Crowe admitted that the substance was methamphetamine and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Mr. Crowe was taken into custody and transferred to the Cocke County Jail Annex…just across the street.
