Volunteer High School Shooter Call Was A Hoax
What was a traumatic event for some high school students in Hawkins County has turned out to be a hoax. Hawkins County sheriff Ronny Lawson says that just before 8am Tuesday morning, the department received a call from a student at Volunteer High School claiming to have been bullied by classmates…the student stated they were in the bathroom and had a handgun. That student then stated they were going to head to the gymnasium and start shooting. The school was immediately locked down and students were later evacuated while a sweep of the school was done. No gun nor shooter was found in that search.
Two students were injured during that hoax….one student suffered a seizure and another suffered a panic attack. Sheriff Lawson says they have information that proves this was a hoax but could not share that information due to it being an ongoing investigation. Officials are not sure exactly where the call came from but are getting help from IT specialists to locate the individual who made that call. Six law enforcement agencies responded to Volunteer High School during that incident.
