Cocke County Sheriff’s CID Solved Nearly 50% of Cases in September
The Cocke County Sheriff’s department in an effort to keep the public informed has released the stats sheet for their criminal investigation division for the month of September. That division of the sheriff’s department currently has 4 detectives. Those 4 were pretty busy last month. According to the sheriff’s office, the CID worked 117 total cases in September…of those…54 were Solved…along with 24 arrests. There still 57 active cases with 6 in-active. All total the CID had a 46% solvability rate on all cases, and according to statistics, that is around 8% to 9% above the state average.
The sheriff’s department went on to say that many of those active cases are awaiting forensics testing, search warrants or subpoenas. They say the TBI’s crime lab is about 4 to 6 months behind on certain cases and autopsy’s are 3 to 5 months behind on final reports. The sheriff’s department states that active takes that rely on forensic evidence can take several months to complete but must be done in a way that will not jeopardize the case.
