City Council Okays Mini Pumper For Newport Fire Department
It will be a Merry Christmas for the Newport Fire Department as last night the Newport City Council approved the purchase of a mini-pumper for the Newport Fire Department. A mini pumper has a small 500- to 750-gpm pump and a limited amount, 250-300 gallons, of water onboard. It can be used as a first response unit for car fires; dumpster fires; and brush fires. In some cases a mini pumper can be used as a first-out attack unit for small structural fires. Many fire departments use mimi pumpers to go where larger fire trucks can’t get to…such as down a driveway, up a mountain road, or even to the back yard of an apartment building.
Last night the Newport City Council also gave the green light to Newport Utilities to renew a USDA Letter Of Credit at Commercial Bank. They also modified the Fire Civil Service Charter to bring it more in line with the Police Civil Service Charter, plus the council voted to close an unused alley on Sanford Street. The next time the city council meets will be after the calendar turns to 2022…on January 11th.
