Newport Man Attacks Father With Machete

A Newport man is now in custody after attacking his own father with…a machete. 77 year old Niles Woodson stated his son, 44 year old Chad Woodson, had put something on the stove and then left it, causing the residence to fill with smoke. Niles Woodson stated when he confronted his son about it, Chad Woodson became angry, went to his bedroom where he retrieved a machete. the older Woodson said he raised his hand to protect himself and his son brought the machete’s blade down on his hand causing a deep laceration. Officers could see pools of blood throughout the front room of the home. A tourniquet was applied to Niles Woodson’s hand…police say the injured man could not stand due to the loos of blood. Chad Woodson admitted striking his father with the machete and was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. That incident is under investigation and more charges could be pending against Chad Woodson.
