TN Attorney General Stepping Down

Tennessee’s Attorney General Herbert Slatery says he is taking down his shingle. Slatery informed the Tennessee Supreme Court this week that he will not seek another 8 year term as the state’s top lawyer. Tennessee is the only state in the nation where the state’s attorney general is appointed by the state Supreme Court. Slatery was appointed to his position as attorney general back in 2014. In his eight years in the attorney general’s office, the 70 year old Slatery oversaw the resumption of executions in the state and was instrumental in the investigation of opioid manufacturers. Herbert Slatery was the first republican attorney general the state has had since the days of reconstruction which ended in 1877.
