Newport School Staff Getting A Bonus This Year

Newport school staff members will be getting a bonus this year. Monday night the Newport school board met and approved a bonus system for the 2022-23 school year. All full time staff members will receive the option to get two extra personal days this year, or take $300. Part time employees can choose between 1 extra personal day and a $150 bonus. Along with those bonuses, the school board also approved a plan that would pay teachers extra money if they score well on the Tennessee Value Added Assessment System. The TVAAS measures the impact schools and teachers have on their students’ academic progress. TVAAS is a powerful tool because it measures ow much students grow in a year, relative to other students across the state. With the bonus system approved by the Newport school board last night, teachers who score a 5 on the TVAAS will receive a $1,000 bonus. Teachers who score a 4 on the assessment will get an $800 bonus.
