Juvenile Arrested After Making Threat Toward School
A juvenile is in custody in Sevier County after making a threat on social media against a school. According to the Sevierville police department, Tuesday evening detectives were made aware of a possible threat of violence on social media towards Sevier County High School. The threat was non-specific in nature.
Detectives with both the Sevierville police department and Sevier County Sheriff’s office began an investigation. They interviewed several students and determined there was no reason to believe any students or staff were in danger Wednesday at Sevier County High School, so classes were held as usual. However out of an abundance of caution and to ease concerns from students, parents and school staff, there was an additional prescense of police at the school on Wednesday morning.
Wednesday afternoon, detectives arrested a juvenile suspect. That person has been charged with making a threat of violence pertaining to a school. That is a class-A misdemeanor in Tennessee.
