Newport Police Make DUI Arrest

Early Thursday morning, Newport police arrested two individuals after they were seen driving erratically on Cosby Hwy. At one point the black SUV nearly drove up onto the sidewalk…but then came back into the roadway and straddled the middle of the northbound lanes. At the wheel was 37 year old Caleb Irving. Numerous bottles of alcohol were found in the SUV…including Jack Daniels, Modelo and Crown Royal. Irving was intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. The passenger was 18 year old Amiya Turner…who was also intoxicated. Caleb Irving was charged with providing an underage person with alcohol on top of the DUI charge. Amiya Turner was charged with public intoxication along with disorderly conduct as she continually attempted to interfere with police. She was also charged with indecent exposure.
