Expired Tags Leads To Drug Arrest
A woman whose license had been suspended in Sevier County was arrested in Newport on Monday. That woman is now facing drug charges. Police pulled the black Toyota Camry over on Cosby Hwy due to expired tags. The driver was 51 year old Serita Shults. When officers asked if anything illegal was in her car, that’s when Shults, who had remained calm, got nervous. Shults denied permission t\for a search, but when she was arrested for driving on the suspended license, officers were okayed to search the vehicle. That search reveled 15 grams of a white powder commonly used to cut illegal narcotics. Officers also found over 2 grams of heroin and over a gram of meth in the vehicle as well. There were also small baggies found that are commonly used to package illegal narcotics for sale. Shults was charged with manufacture, sale or delivery of both schedule I & II narcotics.
