Greene Co. Woman Dies In Fire
The Thanksgiving weekend became tragic for one family in East Tennessee as a woman was killed in a house fire in Greene County. The home in the Fall Branch community caught on fire Saturday morning…the call coming into Washington County 911 who relayed it to Greene County 911. Fire departments from both counties were dispatched including the Greeneville City Fire Department. When firefighters first arrived, the home was 70% involved in the fire. Seven people were in the home at the time with six getting out. Authorities say that 66 year old Shirley Manis was unable to get out and perished in the fire. One other person suffered second and third degree burns and was transported to an area hospital. Investigators with the TBI’s bomb and arson division and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the cause of that fire. The remains of the victim were sent to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center for an autopsy and formal identification. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
