Water Shortage And Boil Order In Del Rio
Newport Utilities issued a boil order yesterday afternoon for residents in Del Rio. That area has seen a series of water leaks from the frigid cold temperatures over the weekend. Those leaks has led to a water shortage in some areas around Del Rio. Newport Utilities set up a location last night where they distributed water to local residents. The shortage area is along Hwy 340 south to Hwy 25-70 and then all of Del Rio including out east on Hwy 25-70 to Hwy 107.
As far as the boil order, this only applies to the Del Rio area at this time. Newport Utilities says you should bring all water to a rolling boil for at least (3) three minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. The boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Newport Utilities says ALL STORED WATER OR ICE MADE RECENTLY FROM THE CURRENT WATER SUPPLY SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
As far as using the water for bathing, it is safe to do so, just don’t swallow the water. For washing dishes, most dishwashers have a sanitize cycle so they are safe to use. If you wash dishes by hand, use a separate wash basin to rinse the dishes in and add a teaspoon of unscented bleach to the hot rinse water. Washing clothes is no issue.
