Traffic Stop Leads To Two Arrests
Two people were arrested Saturday night in Newport after being stopped for having the wrong tags on the wrong vehicle. The vehicle in question was a red Buick, but the tag on it was for a blue Mazda. Both the driver and the passenger were acting nervously and consented to a search of the vehicle. That search yielded a meth pipe in the passenger side door plus nearly 2 grams of methamphetamine and 51 Gabapentin pills in various pill bottles that were unlabeled or had the names removed. Arrested was the driver, 53 year old Jimmy Whitlock whose license had been suspended out of North Carolina…and the passenger 62 year old Nancy Ramsey who was wanted for probation violation in Sevier County. Only Ramsey was charged with possession of drugs.
Another man and woman were arrested Sunday afternoon for drug related offenses and more. Police stopped a white Honda Accord on Cosby Hwy which was in violation of Tennessee’s tinted window law. The driver originally gave police a fake name, but then admitted he was 36 year old William Bowman who had two sealed presentments out of Cocke County Circuit Court. Bowman was also in possession of drug paraphernalia was charged with identity theft. The passenger in the car was 35 year old Ashley Huff who was in possession of nearly 2 grams of methamphetamine.
