Counterfeit Money In Newport
Police are on the lookout for two black males who passed counterfeit money in Newport over the weekend. The store manager at Advance Auto Parts on West Broadway told Newport police that a black male come in the store Sunday afternoon and purchased $25 worth of synthetic oil and paid with a $100 bill. That bill would up being fake, but it wasn’t realized till the man had left the store. The manager stated that the man got into a 2011 white BMW with North Carolina plates. They also stated that while that suspect was in their store, another black male from the BMW had went to the Dollar General across the street. Police checked with the Dollar General and the manager stated a young black male came into the store and attempted to buy 2 phone cards but they did not go through with the transaction. A picture of one of the suspects was seen on security camera footage. The tag number of the North Carolina plate came back to a Ricky Grier of Charlotte, NC. Police are still investigating that case.
