Beware Of Scam Letters Being Mailed
Some people in Cocke County have received letters in mail regarding the deed to your home or a home warranty. These letters took official. The envelope has ” County Deed Records” in the upper left with “Immediate Response To This Notice Requested” underneath. Inside is a letter asking for money to receive a copy of your deed. Cocke County Register of Deeds Mark McGaha reminds you that when you close on a home or piece of property, you will receive a copy of your deed in the mail free of charge after the property is registered. Mark McGaha says these letters are NOT from the Register of Deeds office and are a scam. He says his office will never send a letter requesting money. Plus, if you want a copy of your deed, you can get on at the register’s office free of charge. McGaha says a few years ago a fraud alert system was set up in the county that you can sign up for.
