Scammer Strikes In Hamblen County
A person in Hamblen County has been hit by a scammer portraying themselves as an actual employee of the Hamblen County Sheriff’s office. Hamblen County Sheriff Chad Mullins says that the victim got a call recently and the caller ID showed the number to be from the Hamblen County Sheriff’s office. A person on the other end of the phone stated that they were a Lieutenant with the Hamblen County Sheriff’s office and that the victim had missed Jury Duty and had to pay money to be kept out of jail. Mullins says the scammer was very aggressive and hostile and the victim panicked and bought numerous gift cards as instructed and gave the scammer the numbers off of those cards. This victim was scammed out of $9,000. Mullins says the sheriff’s office is currently investigating that case.
