CCFD Responds To Two Wildfires At Same Location
The Cocke County Fire Department was dispatched Thursday afternoon for two wildfires on Green Valley Road. Cocke County Fire Department Chief Bryan Southerland says the fire department was called just before 1pm for a small wildfire, then were called out again just before 2pm for another small wildfire. Chief Southerland stated that when firefighters arrived on scene for the first wildfire, they had observed a silver or gray Pontiac 4 door vehicle leaving the area. They described the driver as a young male with curly hair and glasses, and a Cocke County High School student tag hanging from the rearview mirror. Another vehicle description that was also given by firefighters was a dark gray possibly newer model Nissan. Chief Southerland says while they were fighting the fires, the property owner came and told him that a week ago someone had tried to break into a storage building on his property. Chief Southerland told the Cocke County sheriff’s office, he thinks that someone may be intentionally setting those wildfires. There are no suspects at this time.
