Cosby Man Injured In ATV Accident

A Cosby man was severely injured last week in an ATV accident. Cocke County Sheriff’s deputies say that 51 year old William Smelcer was driving a 4 wheeler up a steep mountain trail when the ATV overturned and landed on top of him. Deputy Miranda Williams found Smelcer who was going in and out of consciousness and complaining of pain everywhere, except he had no feeling in his legs. More deputies along with firefighters and EMS arrived and were able to get Smelcer transported back down the mountain where he was then taken to Smoky Mountain School in Cosby where Lifestar was awaiting and airlifted him to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
