National Drugs Take Back Day Is April 22
Next Saturday, April 22, is National Drug Take Back Day. The Newport Police Department and the Cocke County Sheriff’s office will be at Walgreen’s in Newport from 10am-2pm that day to accept any unwanted medications you may have. That could be medications that have expired or are not needed…or perhaps you just want to get them out of your home.
As part of National Drug Take Back Day, Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist for the Sevier County Office of Alcohol and Drug Programs, Marissa Valentine, will be joining law enforcement on site to provide overdose prevention education and additional recovery resource information. She is a great resource If you or a loved one are ready to start recovery or are currently in recovery. Newport police chief Maurice Shults says that drug take back day helps in the fight against overdoses and that you can help in law enforcement’s battle against drugs by dropping off any unwanted, expired medications you have. Needles, syringes, and sharps will not be accepted during this event on April 22.
