No Charges Against Officers In Fatal Shooting
District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn’s office announced Friday that no charges will be filed against officers involved in a fatal shooting at a Sevier County home earlier this year. Back on May 12, officers went to serve an arrest warrant at a home in the New Center Community. When an occupant of that home opened the door, officers spotted the suspect, 66 year old Daryl Higdon armed with an AR-15 style rifle inside. Gunfire erupted when an officer saw Higdon with the rifle. Higdon fired multiple shots at police from inside the home. The man who opened the door to the home, David Green, was killed in the exchange of gunfire. District Attorney Jimmy Dunn said after reviewing all the evidence in that case and watching officer’s body cam footage, he concluded that while the death of David Green is “horrible and tragic, the death of David Green is not the result of any criminal conduct on behalf of any law enforcement officer”. The arrest warrant that started what led to the shooting was taken out against Higdon after he fled from a traffic stop earlier that day.
