Bomb Threat Made Against Hampton Inn
Newport police were called to the Hampton Inn on Cosby Hwy Tuesday afternoon after someone called in a bomb threat. The front desk clerk told police she received a phone call and a male voice told her that if she did not follow his instructions that he would “set off a bomb in the building.” She told Police that when she asked the man where the bomb was, he became angry with her and hung up after telling her not to ask questions. Officers had the desk clerk use the Fire Alarm system to evacuate the hotel. Officers did a sweep to make sure all were out, then called in bomb sniffing K-9’s from the Sevierville and Pigeon Forge police departments. The K-9’s found no bomb and the building was then cleared for guests to return to their rooms. The caller ID on the hotel’s phone system did not record a number that made the call of the bomb threat, so no one has been arrested at this time.
