National Emergency Alert Test Scheduled
There will be a national test of the Emergency Alert System coming up in October. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission have announced they will be having a planned test of the National Emergency Alert System on Oct. 4th. The test in October will consist of two, separate demonstrations of the emergency broadcasts: first, the Emergency Alert System (EAS), which will broadcast to all televisions and radios in range of the test and secondly the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), which will send a message to all cell phones that are in range of receivers. The message you will see on your phone will read “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” This is only the second time a test like this has been done on the Wireless Emergency Alert system, but it will be the seventh such national test of the Emergency Alert System.
