Jefferson County Mayor Arrested For DUI
Jefferson County’s mayor was jailed this week after he was arrested for DUI earlier this week in Bradley County. A citizen had called 911 about seeing a man along Interstate 75 near mile marker 20 lying face down in a ditch surrounded by beer cans. When a state trooper arrived at that location, there was no man to be found. The trooper continued a couple more miles farther to near mile marker 18 and found Mark Lee Potts of Dandridge sitting upright down in the ditch. The 65 year old told the state trooper he had stopped in Knoxville and bought some beer and had been drinking while driving ever since. He stated he had pulled over to be safe. When Potts stood up, the trooper noted that Potts had urinated on himself. Beer cans were found inside Potts vehicle as well. He was taken to the Bradley County jail and charged with DUI. Potts is began serving his second term as Jefferson County Mayor in September of 2022.
