National Emergency Alert Test Wednesday
At 2:20pm Wednesday, October 4, the Federal Communications Commission will have a national test of the Emergency Alert System. This will also test the Emergency Wireless System. That means all cell phones that are turned on will receive the test as well. Do not panic, this only a test tomorrow. All radio and tv stations will broadcast this test. A message will show on your cell phone that this is only a test. This will be the seventh time there has been a national test of the Emergency Alert System, but it is just the second time the test has been sent to cell phones.
That test will be tomorrow, October 4th at 2:20pm EDT.
If you work in Gatlinburg, you will be hearing a siren as well tomorrow. The Sevier County Emergency Agency and the City Of Gatlinburg will be testing their Outdoor Warning Siren Systems. The Sevier County EMA says the system is designed to provide public notification of emergencies to individuals who are outside and may not have access to traditional communication devices, such as television, radio, or mobile phones. The test will be a full alert activation and include audible siren sounds. It will last for two minutes. That test will happen between 12 & 12:30pm tomorrow, about two hours before the national test.
