National Drug Take Back Day This Saturday

The Newport Police Department and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department are joining forces to take part in The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day scheduled for October 28. Officers will be accepting any unwanted medication from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. this Saturday at Food City – East located in the Eastern Plaza Shopping Center. Ndewport police chief Maurice Sults says “This vital program across the nation allows law enforcement to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of any unwanted medication in your household.” Needles and syringes will not be accepted, just medications. If you are unable to drop off your medications during the event, you can always drop off your unwanted medications at the Newport Police Department located at 330 East Main Street and the Cocke County Courthouse located at 111 Court Ave. anytime during regular office hours.
