Accident Sends 92 Year Old Woman To Hospital
A 92 year old woman is fortunate to be alive after a scary accident on east Hwy 25\70 in Cocke County. Bill Meadows told the Tennessee Highway Patrol he was driving his tractor trailer on Hwy 25/70 Thursday morning and observed a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup that was “all over the road”. That pickup was driven by 92 year old Hazel Gowan of North Carolina. Meadows says the two vehicles entered the section of highway where the westbound lane expands from one lane into two lanes for a passing zone for about 1/2 mile with his truck in the left lane and Gowen in the right lane. Meadows told the THP that Gowen then merged left into the right rear portion of his tractor trailer’s fourth axle. Gowan’s vehicle then went under the truck’s trailer and was dragged several feet before coming out from under the trailer, and going off the right side of the road. Gowan’s pickup then struck an embankment, rolled over and came to a rest on its top. Meadows pulled over to assist until first responders arrived. Gowan was transported to the hospital. Both were wearing their seatbelts. Meadows was uninjured but was shaken up by the accident. No one was cited in that accident.
