CCSO and NPD Catch Burglary Suspect
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office is breathing a sigh of relief this Monday morning after apprehending a wanted suspect that has burglarized numerous businesses in Newport. On Sunday, the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office and Newport department were investigating two new burglaries of businesses on Highway 25E. While on scene, the sheriff’s office was obtaining information regarding the investigation and Newport officers went into a wooded area off of Jasmine Drive, to see if the suspect, Bryan Thompson, was still in the woods. Upon entering, officers encountered Thompson coming out of a tent in the woods. Thompson was apprehended without incident.
Bryan Thompson is suspected to be the person behind numerous burglaries of businesses in Newport over the last couple months. Those businesses include Osaka restaurant, China One restaurant and Smoky Mountain Silencer, where Thompson was seen on video footage committing the burglary.
