AAA Expects Many Tennesseans To Travel For Christmas
If you will be traveling over the Christmas holiday, the AAA says you are going to have a lot of company, especially on the road. The AAA says they expect 2.7 million Tennesseans will travel between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1 this year. Of those, 2.5 million are expected to join you on the road travelling by car. If that turns out to be the case, this holiday weekend will be the second busiest for Tennessee roadways since AAA began tracking holiday travel 23 years ago.
The AAA suggests before you hit the road, you make sure your vehicle is ready. Check your tire pressure, car battery and check to make sure your brakes are in good working order. You should also check your windshield wipers and make sure you have your car’s fluids topped off, like windshield washer fluid, oil and brake fluid.
The AAA also says if you want to avoid the heavy traffic, you should travel early, such as this Friday or Saturday, December 22 & 23rd. If you do have to travel on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, you can avoid the traffic by traveling before noon.
By the Way, TDOT says they will suspend short term lane closures beginning Friday morning, December 22 at 6am and continuing through Tuesday January 2 at 6am.
