Newport Man Speeds Into Construction Zone-Nearly Strikes Patrol Car
A Newport man was arrested last week after driving at a high rate of speed into the construction zone on US 321 north of Newport. The sheriff’s department says that 19 year old Landon Stuart of Newport was clocked at 80 mph by a deputy sitting at the intersection of Hwy 321 and Old Greeneville Highway. Stuart ran through the stop sign at the intersection, and continued into the work zone, nearly striking the sheriff’s deputy’s patrol car. Stuart was found to have a 12 pack of Corona in the back seat with approximately half the box missing and the ones still in the box where still cold to the touch. Stuart was charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, dui and running a stop sign.
