Newport Man Charged with Aggravated Assault

A Newport man has been arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault for an incident that happened Tuesday. The Cocke County Sheriff’s office says they were called to the Newport Medical Center after a woman had shown up at the hospital with injuries to her neck and face. 26 year old Billie Mullins told deputies that she and her ex-boyfriend, 50 year old Randy Dameron had gotten into a verbal argument that quickly turned physical. She stated that Dameron grabbed her by the throat and repeatedly scratched her face. Mullins’ face was observed to be red and swollen with numerous scratches. She also had red markings on her neck and chest. Deputies went to a home on Old Sevierville Hwy to speak with Dameron but he was not there. Shortly after midnight Wednesday morning, deputies received a tip that Dameron was at the residence. They returned and found him trying to hide under a blanket in the living room. He was taken into custody at that time.
