Fewer Firearms Confiscated In Tennessee Airports In 2023
It seems some people in Tennessee are getting the message. You cannot carry a firearm onto an airplane in your carry-on bag. Fewer firearms were confiscated from travelers at Knoxville’s McGhee-Tyson Airport in 2023. That’s according to a new report by the Transportation Security Administration. The TSA says there were 27 firearms confiscated in 2023 at McGhee-Tyson. That is down from 32 confiscated firearms in 2022. Statewide, the TSA says 313 firearms were discovered in travelers’ carry-on luggage in 2023 in Tennessee airports. The majority of those guns found were from travelers flying out of Nashville International Airport…with 188. That number is also down from 213 in 2022. 71 were confiscated in Memphis, 18 in Chattanooga and 9 firearms were confiscated by those traveling out of the Tri-Cities Airport in 2023.
Nationwide, the TSA says they confiscated 6,737 firearms in carry-on luggage in 2023. That is UP from 6,542 the year before.
