New Security Technology Now Available For Schools In TN
New security technology is now available in Tennessee to help keep the state’s schools safer. The office of State Senator Mark Pody of Lebanon says the senator worked for months with teachers, school administrators, school safety experts and technology developers to identify needs and make a new life-saving technology available to schools and teachers.
The new device is a button that would be installed in classrooms. At the push of the button by a teacher, the device will notify both law enforcement and school administrators to threats while also providing real-time video footage of the classroom or surrounding area. That way police know what they are going into before the arrive.
Pody filed legislation this year to make the new security technology eligible for school safety grants, and the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) agreed to approve the technology administratively. Now, instead of waiting on the months-long legislative process, the new technology is available to schools immediately. TDOE will be notifying school districts across the state that the school safety grant eligibility is now expanded to cover this new life saving technology.
