Single Vehicle Accident Closes North Street
A one car accident is what caused North Street to be closed in Newport Wednesday morning, According to Newport police, 23 year old Irvin Ogle of Newport was traveling southbound on North Street. Ogle told police that his tires were bad and the road being wet, he lost control of his vehicle and went off the right side of the roadway, crashing into a utility pole. The responding officer noticed a smell of alcohol coming from Ogle, who stated he had drank one beer on top of taking pain medication a few hours before. However, an empty Vodka bottle was found in the front right floorboard of Ogle’s vehicle. He was transported to the Newport Medical Center complaining of shoulder pain. A charge of DUI against Ogle is pending the results of a blood alcohol test. North street was closed for a time while crews replaced the utility pole.
